Objectives
- To develop and implement a DECO strategy;
- To organise, support and provide guidance to all partners in their DECO activities;

WP2: Conceptual and analytical framework (UNIPI)
Objectives:
- To build the conceptual base to describe, classify and explain the diversity of mountain value chains;
- To develop a shared vocabulary among partners;

- To contribute to an improved theory of mountain value chains with a focus on the interface between science, society and policy-makers, RRI and gender dimensions;

WP3: Development of visual science-society-policy interface tools (UEvora)
Objectives
- To identify the diversity of land use systems (farming as well as forestry systems) in the reference regions;
- To assess and map susceptibility of the reference regions to climate change, considering also their influence on ecological disturbance regimes;
- To assess and map the vulnerability of land use systems in the reference regions, to climate change and other relevant threats in each region, such as depopulation, increasing tourism infrastructures, or others;
- To produce and provide interactive visual tools – especially maps and indicators – that deliver actual information on assets, sustainability, and resilience, and might contribute to awareness-raising of AKIS, value chain, civil society and policy-making actors in mountain areas.

WP4: Participatory appraisal of vulnerability and performance of value chains (HUTTON)
Objectives
- To identify and characterise 400 mountain VCs distributed across all the European mountain areas to account for the diversity in Europe, including configurations, strategies, dynamics and value distribution;
- To categorise and select VCs in the reference regions based on their components, configurations and strategies; as well as their interdependencies;
- To perform participatory analysis of how the selected VCs function within the regional socio-ecological system;
- To perform participatory evaluation of the selected VC contribution to the region’s sustainability performance and trends;
- To perform participatory appraisal of the VC contribution to the region’s resilience to change.

Objectives
- To perform a critical assessment of the VCs identified in WP4 based on the benchmarking indicators aligned with SDGs developed in WP2;
- To identify relevant (5) clusters allowing to group typologies of VCs sharing characteristics;
- To perform comparative analysis of the vulnerability, resilience and sustainability of VCs for each cluster;
- To identify main success and failure factors against specific vulnerability contexts.

WP6: Participatory multi-level foresight (ORIGIN)
Objectives
- To identify the socio-ecological drivers and game-changers (social dynamics, technology pathways, development strategies, policy environments) that will shape the future of mountain VCs by 2050;
- To produce (4) H2050 scenario narratives based on potential future scenario frames to assess the strategic options for the evolution of mountain VCs at European and regional levels;
- To conduct foresight exercises at local, cross-regional and pan-European levels;
- To provide visions of future trends and dynamics that permit identifying policy gaps and policy modernisation needs;
- To face the challenges identified in the scenarios.

WP7: Policy analysis and roadmap (HCC)
Objectives
- To develop an approach and detailed methodology for policy audit and policy formulation that is appropriate for supporting the design of future-proof rural policies;
- To analyse and map the evolution and impact of public policies and private sector initiatives of relevance to mountain areas in contrasting contexts;
- To apply and interpret the evidence gathered in WP4-6 to highlight existing policy gaps, inconsistencies and inefficiencies;
- To develop interactively – together with the CoP – a clear strategic approach for the modernisation of multi-level policy tools/approaches that can be used (either individually or in combination) to enable the repertoire of strategic options developed in WP6;
- To prepare in the form of easy-to-use strategic programming tools a Policy Roadmap and ‘Quick Start’ Policy Design;
- Toolkit for policymakers and to enhance the impact of these tools by linking to the visual tools developed in WP3 and implemented in the VRE (WP1).

WP8: Project management (UCO)
Objectives
- To provide overall technical and scientific direction and to drive the progress of the project, steering efforts of the partners for the achievement of milestones and ensuring that the work is undertaken with appropriate quality levels;
- To elaborate a project management handbook defining the rules of financial-admin management as well as the common general procedures for deliverables and related reports of the project;
- To perform exhaustive progress monitoring to avoid deviations and facilitate the execution of the project;
- To ensure that the project is not hampered by ethical problems and respects all relevant international and national regulations;
- To comply with the HORIZON 2020 rules in terms of financial and administrative issues;
- To organise and participate in coordination meetings on a regular basis;
- To define clear Data Management and IPR policies allowing a joint exploitation of the results while avoiding conflicts among partners;
- To foster synergies with other complementary EU projects.
